Abraham Pellissery

Assistant Research Professor

Dr. Pellissery worked as a field veterinarian in Kerala, India, for nearly two years. Subsequently, he worked as an Assistant Professor at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University teaching Veterinary Biochemistry and Clinical Laboratory Diagnosis. Before taking up the current position, Dr. Pellissery worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the Food Safety and Microbiology Laboratory at UConn’s Department of Animal Science for two years.

Research Interests

  • Identify novel phytochemical and putative probiotics that target to inhibit pathogens, and reduce bacterial virulence and antimicrobial resistance
  • Assess efficacy of mucosal vaccines that target pathogens in livestock and poultry
  • Research in novel diagnostic platforms for pathogen identification and disease diagnosis
