About

Bruna Santana is a third-year doctoral candidate at the Animal Genomics Lab under the supervision of Dr. Breno Fragomeni, working on projects related to animal genetic improvement. Her areas of interest include advancing productive livestock efficiency for several traits of economic importance by evaluating genetic merit, studying domestic populations by estimating genetic parameters, inbreeding, relationships, etc. Her dissertation aims to identify if genotype-by-environment (GxE) interaction exists across two regions of the United States (New England and California) for traits in Holstein Cattle. In addition, identify genomic regions that may be associated with adaptation to help understand which factors are underlying G x E interaction. Outside of research, Bruna enjoys the outdoor activities, especially biking, hiking and swimming. Recently, she started a new hobby – acrylic painting.
