About
Mairui Gao is a PhD student in Dr. Mary Anne Amalaradjou’s lab. Ms. Gao applies probiotics as protective cultures, along with organic acids, to control Salmonella enterica, E. coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes on alfalfa seeds, sprouts and apples. Besides, she is also interested in the virulence of pathogens and the effect of probiotics on attenuating virulence. Moreover, she also applies early supplementation of probiotics to improve the hatchability and hatchling quality of broilers. In the future, she will investigate the energy metabolism of chick embryos and characterize the microbiome composition in the embryo development stage.
