Alana Wolfson '27

Alana Wolfson '27 received a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) award through the American Physiological Society.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF), allow students to participate in hands-on research in the laboratory of an established researcher and APS member for 10 weeks. During her fellowship, Alana plans to conduct research on the impact of poor maternal nutrition on mitochondrial functionality in sheep, specifically, looking at how gestational nutrition impacts fetal programming and it's ability to span across generations.

Carissa Leung '25

Carissa Leung '25 was selected as a UConn Summer Undergraduate Research Fund (SURF) Grant recipient for 2024 through the Office of Undergraduate Research. During the summer, Carissa will be focusing on the effects of egg incubation temperature on nestling skin morphology and nest parasite abundance in Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia sialis).

In addition, Carissa was awarded the Student Research Grant issued by the American Ornithological Society, as well as the EEB Student Research Award issued by the UConn Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History.
