The UConn Creamery has been crafting your beloved and award-winning ice cream since the opening of the Dairy Bar more than 70 years ago (1953). Using fresh milk from our cows and traditional methods, the Department of Animal Science’s faculty, students, and staff churn their love for learning into creating New England’s best ice cream. Beyond producing ice cream, the Creamery supports UConn’s teaching, research and extension missions and generates resources to enhance scholarly and student activities.

Our ice cream manufacturing equipment, however, is aging. With your support, we can enhance our equipment and remain a valued part of the local community for decades.

UConn helped grow Animal Science alumna Samantha (Sam) Calzone ‘18 into a beautiful young woman - full of energy and enthusiasm, and with the skills and leadership qualities she needed to succeed. A tragic accident at work took that all away but she lives on in the UConn community, and all of our hearts, through the Samantha Calzone scholarship, the horse show in her honor, and the foal named after her. She is missed by all those she touched during her life.

This endowed scholarship, established by Sam’s family and friends, ensures Sam will continue to inspire generations of UConn students. Sam’s mother, Ruthann Pritchard, said it best: “Having your children in an environment that allows them to blossom not only academically, but also personally, is all you can really ask for. This scholarship helps students afford that same opportunity at a school with renowned programs that can be expensive for students, particularly if the student is out of state.” Recipients of this award are those who share Sam’s passions- Animal Science majors who are members of the Equestrian Team.

Join us in honoring Sam’s memory and supporting the scholarship in her name! #UConnGives https://s.uconn.edu/calzone-scholarship
